Five Things Friday

It’s Friday yet again!  I’m always glad when Friday rolls around because it means that I am hours away from spending the weekend with my three favorite guys.  This weekend we have a fall festival at church and I have a tennis match on Sunday.  The weather looks like it’s going to be gorgeous both days!  I love fall.  🙂

And here are five things that I’m loving this week.

Chunky yarn.  As I’ve mentioned before, I’m giving a lot of handmade gifts this year for Christmas.  For my sisters-in-law, mother, and mother-in-law, I am crocheting some warm and cozy cowls/infinity scarfs, whichever you want to call them.  I am planning on making about 10 of them, so I need each of them to be a fairly quick project.  Enter Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick yarn.  A mix of lamb’s wool and acrylic, this yarn is super soft, really thick, and helps keep the project moving pretty quickly.  I’m using a size P crochet hook and a double crochet stitch, so the weave is loose and open.  That way they won’t be too tight or hard to wrap around, and also will let a little air in.  So far I’m loving how they are turning out.  There is a large variety of colors, so I can make one for all the ladies in our life and maybe a couple for myself.

New foundation.  I don’t typically use foundation, but Zac brought home a ton of brand new still sealed makeup from a work event a few months ago {it was a prom prep party for local high school kids} and I got to pick out some new makeup for myself.  One of the things I picked out was a bottle of Cover Girl Olay Tone Rehab foundation.  I grabbed it because I am a big fan of Olay Regenerist Night Recovery Cream and thought I would give it a try.  Well, I put some on this week on a whim because my face is broken out to beat the band and I figured it couldn’t hurt.  I LOVE this stuff.  It goes on smoothly and evenly with just my fingertips, so no weird sponge or applicator or anything like that.  I think it really does help even out my skin tone, and it just feels good and lightweight on my face.  I’m not sure if I will wear foundation all the time now, but at $11-13 at any drugstore this is a great deal for a great product.

Costco.  Does this really need an explanation?  I love that place.  We are there at least once a week, sometimes more.  We buy a lot of our bulk groceries there, like meats, bread, peanut butter, Nutella, and my bulk baking needs for the holidays which are quickly approaching.  They have the coolest toys, random awesome gifts, and great deals on tech stuff and cameras.  I greatly prefer it over Sam’s Club.  I prefer the Kirkland brand to a lot of name brand stuff, which is great because I didn’t really like a lot of the Sam’s Club brand items when we had a Sam’s membership.  If you’re debating, wondering whether or not it’s worth it, it is.  Join.  Do it.

Thrift stores.  Zac and I have long been thrift store fans.  You just never know what you’re going to find.  Well, this week we hit the mother lode of classic Disney VHS tapes.  We just so happen to still have my old TV from college, which has a built-in VHS player.  We plug it up in Cole’s room as a very extra special treat when he has been a very good boy and let him watch a tape in his bedroom if he isn’t tired during naptime.  Now we have a lot more options for him.  We also found a set of plastic knight armor for $4.  Cole likes to pretend he is a knight sometimes {thank you, Backyardigans}, so he was over the moon when we gave him this set.  I like to look through the knick knacks and kitchen/dining section for fun little bowls and serving platters, and sometimes you find a kitschy piece of framed art to take home.  It’s a fun way to spend an afternoon.

Dr. Pepper Cherry ice cream topping.  Last night Zac asked me to stop at the store for some ice cream on the way home from tennis practice.  So I decided to get some fun toppings to make sundaes for the boys this weekend.  I got the customary whipped cream and chocolate chips and we already had chocolate syrup at home.  But I saw something new: Dr. Pepper Cherry dessert topper.  I had to try it.  It is actually pretty good!  Not quite as sweet as a straight cherry topping, and had a little bit of soda taste so that the ice cream kind of had a float taste to it.  They also had an A&W flavor that looked good, so maybe we’ll try that next.

So there we go.  What are you loving this week?  Any big plans for the weekend?
