Five Things Friday

My lovelies, today did not get off to a good start.  Both boys ended up in our bed around 4am, my alarm didn’t go off, and I was an hour late for work so I have to work straight through lunch today.  My hair didn’t get dried, so I will be messing with it all day because I don’t like the way it looks.  I had to reschedule a blogger blind date lunch with Julia, and I had a million e-mails when I got to work.  Thank God it’s Friday, at least.

Here’s a short list of things I’m liking today.

Chili.  Now with the weather getting cooler, it’s time to start making some delicious cold-weather comfort food.  For our family, that means a big pot of chili.  We’re not big on soups or stews, but we will absolutely destroy a pot of chili.  Zac and I both like it pretty spicy, so we set aside some for Cole before we add in the really spicy stuff.  Sometimes he eats it and sometimes he says it’s too yuck.  But we always make a huge crockpot full and eat on it for the next day or so.  It’s enough for lunch and dinner the next day at least {and a few cold bites here and there for me; I like hot food cold}.  With three men in the house, it makes for a dangerous atmosphere for a few days, but it’s worth it.

The Lumineers.  I love folk music, so this group is perfect for a nice calm Friday at work.

Flavored syrup.  In our kitchen at work there has sat a bottle of vanilla flavored Starbucks syrup for a few weeks.  I put it in my coffee once or twice, but then people started bringing different flavors of International Delight creamers so I kind of forgot about it.  This morning I gave in to my old Coke Zero addiction and decided to pour a can over ice.  I happened to glance at that bottle of vanilla syrup.  I thought, what the heck, and poured a little in my Coke Zero.  You guys.  It was amazing.  It was delicious.  It was like a soda fountain vanilla Coke but with zero calories {okay, 40 calories if you account for the syrup} and FREEEEEEE!  I have found my new weakness.  Move over, pumpkin spice latte frappucino.  Vanilla Coke Zero is in the hizzouse.

Bunnies.  So we went to the pumpkin patch earlier this week, as we do every year in October.  It was a lot of fun, even if Cole was still a little skittish around the scarier Halloween elements they had displayed.  {Really.  A life sized, moving, talking Freddy Krueger.  I was scared of it, and I’m an adult.}  But they had kiddie games and snacks and best of all, a bunny pen!  So of course we all went in to pet the bunnies.  We were the only ones in the bunny pen at the time so we had our fill of fuzzy bunny goodness.  They are so freaking cute!  It took every bit of fight in me not to bring one home.  The little fuzzy fluffballs were my favorite, although there was a little jackrabbit looking critter that was cracking me up bounding all around the pen and standing on its back legs.  I don’t know if I can resist them when we go back tomorrow.

TrillianTrillian is an IM/chat client that was introduced to by a programming/software type person about 9 years ago.  I have just now rediscovered it and its awesomeness.  It contains all of your various chat clients into one easy window.  So I can access Gtalk, Facebook chat, AIM, Yahoo!, ICQ {whatever that is} MSN, and a ton of other chat programs in one place.  It also has a cool transparency selector so you can choose to make your chat windows and the program itself as transparent as you like, for IMing in stealth mode.  Believe me when I say this is very useful.  You can also choose where your chat windows will open and what size they are by default {in addition to the transparency} so you don’t have to worry about a huge chat window opening up while you are showing someone something on your computer screen.  It also has an app so you can access all of your chat clients on your smartphone.  I highly recommend it if you are a heavy IMer.

And that’s about all I got today.  Happy Friday and have a great weekend!
