Sponsor Spotlight!

So this summer Momma has had to come up with some creative ways to generate more income for the family, and no better place to attempt this than the little slice of the internet that is mine all mine.  As you might have seen, I have recently started writing sponsored posts and accepting advertisements on this blog using an awesome service called Passion Fruit Ads.  I plan on doing another post on how easy the service is to use and how it has the potential to revolutionize the way that internet advertising is done, because it really does take the guesswork out of it.

The best thing about blog advertising, to me at least, is finding new blogs to read.  Since I started using Passion Fruit I have come across so many new people that I probably would not have found otherwise.  A few of them have been so kind as to purchase advertising over there on this little blog of mine.  Here’s a closer look at a couple of my new friends, fellow Atlanta blogger Meghan of Stir & Scribble and sister act Amanda and Jayme of Miskabelle Vintage.  I hope you’ll pay them a visit and add them to your reading list like I have!  And if you’d like to sponsor The House of Burks or do a button swap, visit my Sponsor Me! page for the easiest ad-buying experience of your life.  Tweet me to learn more about my promo codes and discounts!

Stir & Scribble

1. Who are you?  Tell me about yourself and/or your family.  {Photos are great!}

I’m Meghan, a recipe developer, baker, and mean caramel maker with a terrible sweet tooth. A Southerner only by marriage, I believe in mason jars, sharp knives, and strong bourbon. I’m  still not sure if I’m using “ma’am”, “sir” and “y’all” correctly. My favorite word is “moxie”. I currently manage Alton Brown’s book projects and blog over at Stir and Scribble.com. I live with my husband, daughter, and our hound dog, Miles Davis, in Atlanta, Georgia.

2. How long have you been blogging, and what do you blog about?
I’ve been blogging sporadically without focus for almost 2 years. This year I decided to take me blogging more seriously in hopes of improving my writing and photography. I write about food and drinks and my adventures in feeding my daughter during her first year of life.

3. What is your favorite thing to do in your spare time?
I love to cook and eat in my spare time, that probably sounds lame because it is also what I do for a living! I’m just one of those people who’s always thinking about their next meal and pinning new recipes. My list of dishes to cook and eat is so long I may never finish it. I also really love crafting and throwing parties.

4. Is there anything awesome about where you live?  Tell us about it!
It took me a really long time to fall in love with Atlanta. Recently my colleagues and I challenged each other to starting eating outside of our box – a.k.a. the 3 miles around our office. We literally put slips of paper with types of cuisine on them {i.e. Thai or Ethiopian} into a pot and we take turns drawing each week. We’ve gotten to know Atlanta’s Buford Highway a lot better. You could figuratively eat “around the world” on this one stretch of road on the northeast side of town!

5. What is your favorite quote and why?
“An egg is always an adventure – the next one may be different.” Oscar Wilde – Yup, I’m a food geek, but its true on so many levels. Think of all the ways you know how to cook an egg – fried, poached, scrambled and consider also that meringues, ice creams, and mayonnaise all start with eggs. It is the root of cuisine, but on a philosophical level an egg is also the start of life.

1.  Who are you?  Tell me about yourself and/or your family.  {Photos are great!}
We are Amanda and Jayme. We are sisters who run a vintage shop and blog together. Jayme lives in PA with her husband and 1 year old daughter, Lyla. Amanda lives in VA with her husband and her two year old daughter, Aurora.
2.  How long have you been blogging, and what do you blog about?
We have been blogging for over three years–about vintage/thrifted/thrifty fashion, as well as a little about our lives and ourselves.
3.  What is your favorite thing to do in your spare time?
Amanda:  read, write, shop, cook.  Jayme:  paint, read glossy magazines, play with Lyla.
4.  Is there anything awesome about where you live?  Tell us about it!
Amanda:  I don’t particularly love DC, but they do get a lot of good music shows and there is a lot to do.
Jayme:  State College is a great place to raise a family–despite all the negative press recently surrounding the “Happy Valley.”
5.  What is your favorite quote and why?
Amanda:  “You must change your life.”  -Rainier Maria Rilke
I think that so much of our unhappiness comes from our own unwillingness or fear of change.  Once I started changing things I didn’t like or looking for better options, even if they were risking, my life got way better.
Jayme: I don’t really have one!
