Toddle Along Tuesday: Bedtime Routine

Another Tuesday, another link-up with Melissa at Growing Up Geeky!  This week’s Toddle Along Tuesday is co-hosted by Samantha from On Pink Bears and Pacifiers, and the theme is bedtime routines.  Head on over and link up!

With two kids, our bedtime routine tends to be haphazard.  Half the time we start with a bath after dinner {the other half the time Cole opts to take a shower in the morning, and when that happens the baby gets tossed in with me to save time}.  Then the boys get into their jammies.  Cannon tends to overheat at night and wakes up if he gets too warm, so his typical nighttime attire is a simple onesie.  Cole’s pajamas run the gamut from dinosaur footie fleeces, Sheriff Woody or Buzz Lightyear jammies, or just gym shorts and a t-shirt.  We usually let him pick out his pajamas, unless he wants to wear fleeces in the summer or shorts in the winter.

After we get everyone’s jammies on, Cole usually decides it is a good time to tell us that he has to go to the bathroom.  So we help him with his pants and pull-up, he uses the potty, and then he gets his second gummy vitamin of the day.  After he finishes his vitamin, he brushes his teeth and we all sit on our bed for a few minutes to wind down.

Sometimes he falls asleep in our bed right away.

Usually, Zac takes him to his room and reads him a story while I nurse the baby to sleep.  Cole doesn’t usually fall asleep during his story or prayers, so we leave a little lamp on for him so he doesn’t get scared and so he can look at a book for a little while.  Typically, I go in to turn off his light and find him like this.

Sometimes it all goes to crap and we find him like this at 7pm.

I nurse Cannon to sleep still {I’ll spare you a picture of that loveliness}.  He falls asleep in my arms and I will hold him for a little while and play on my iPhone on Twitter or Facebook or message boards.  Then after I’ve had my fill of snuggles I take him to his room and put him in his crib.

Bedtime is probably one of my favorite times of day.  I love my sweet baby snuggles, and I love my goodnight kisses from my big boy.  What does your bedtime routine look like?  Click the button at the top and link up!
