Five Question Friday on Fo’ Twenny Twen Twen!!

We here at the House of Burks do not celebrate 4/20 in its “traditional” sense.  I won’t go into my views on cannabis consumption {other than to confirm that we do not consume it in any fashion} and why I think it should be decriminalized because hey, this is a family place!  But nonetheless, the day has significance for some people and to those people I say: do your thang.

1. Groceries are high right now what is easiest way you have found to cut back?
We shop sales and buy in bulk.  We also look through the coupons every Sunday for things we already use.  I won’t use coupons to buy massive amounts of anything or buy anything we don’t already use.  We will also buy the store brand of most items.  I have a few things I won’t compromise on, like ketchup and sour cream, but we will at least try the store brand of something to see if we like it.  A lot of times, we end up liking it better.  We buy meat in bulk at Costco and keep it in our huge freezer in the garage.  That way we have it when we need it and I can meal plan instead of having to stop by the store for meat and it end up being a higher price.

2. What are the top 3 things on your “bucket list”?
I don’t really have a bucket list.  My ultimate goal in life is to raise kind, caring, accepting, considerate, polite children who are productive members of society.  Anything beyond that is gravy.  I’d like to visit all 50 states, travel through Europe, and pay off my house.  That would probably be my top three aside from raising decent human beings.

3. Would you rather give up AC or heat?
Depends on what time of year it is.  🙂  I would probably give up AC if I had to.  Being from the South, we are accustomed to being hot for at least half the year.  I don’t mind being hot, but I can’t stand being cold.  You’d think it would be the opposite since I do live in the South and it does stay hot for a long time, but I’d rather be hot than cold so I choose to keep heat.

4. What’s your favorite cocktail??
I’m not much of a drinker, but in college there was this Mexican restaurant that made the BEST frozen strawberry margaritas.  They were delicious.  We went to the restaurant about once a week to unwind, so I maybe had two or three a month.  The {only} bar in town’s signature drink was an amaretto sour that was really good.  I’ve tried to recreate it but have never been successful.  I do have a love for amaretto because of it, though.

5. What was your first job & how old were you?
My first job was working in the office of a local car auction that my dad worked security at as an extra job.  It was one night a week.  I worked at the front desk, where I counted the money and filled out the titles.  I was 17 when I started.  I think I made $50 a week, which wasn’t much, but it was enough for me to have a little spending money since I was in college and also on the tennis team.  Not much time for a normal part time job.
